Physical activity-related health competence (PAHCO)
Theory development, assessment development, intervention support, and network formation
Despite the overwhelming evidence regarding the health-promoting effects of physical activity, the current practice of health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA) fails to sufficiently attach individuals to a physically active lifestyle. To counteract this problem, Pfeifer and Sudeck (2013) developed the model of physical activity-related health competence on the basis of the competence discussion conducted in educational research.
The model assumes that the key at the level of the person lies in the interplay of individual movement competence, control competence, and self-regulation competence. This integrative research project follows four concrete research goals in a systematic manner:
1. Elaborating the theoretical foundations of PAHCO
2. Development of an assessment instrument, integration of data sets across different projects, and representative data collection in the population
3. Accompanying interventions in the area of health-enhancing physical activity (in research and application)
4. Forming a network across different locations
