Water Sports Centre
Welcome aboard!
Set course for the Water Sports Centre of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Pleinfeld! It is managed by the Department of Sport Science and Sport of the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology. The University’s Water Sports Centre awaits you directly on the lakeshore of Great Brombach Lake. This is where captains learn to steer: FAU students and members of the Friends of the University hoist their sails on the water and set sail for new shores. The Water Sports Centre is the ideal starting point not only for sailing but also for other water and nature sports (such as Nordic walking, kayaking or triathlon). Not only is the Water Sports Centre a perfect place for sports and recreation in the Franconian Lake District, it also offers you the opportunity to hold seminars, conferences or company sports in a pleasant atmosphere alongside glistening waves. The FAU Water Sports Centre always offers you the setting for a special event. Take advantage of the ideal location of the Water Sports Centre and enjoy the light, the air and the lake view!
The crew of the Water Sports Centre is looking forward to your visit!
Spaces for seminars and events
The 70-sqm, divisible seminar room with 45 seats is available for your events. Tables, chairs, a kitchen, washing machine and kitchenware are available. The team at the Water Sports Centre will be happy to organise catering services and overnight accommodation nearby for you on request.
The cafeteria on the upper floor is glazed on three sides and invites connoisseurs to a snack on the sun terrace (south-east facing) and on the lake terrace (north-west facing) with a magnificent view of the entire lake. The Water Sports Centre building is also eco-friendly, with solar collectors that heat the water and feed electricity into the public electricity grid.
More than just a berth: the Water Sports Centre
From sailing and kayaking to triathlon and lifestyle, there are a large range of courses at the Water Sports Centre. Since July 2003, students at FAU and the affiliated universities of applied sciences can be trained by the University’s sailing professionals to become real water lovers. In addition to the normal teaching activities, companies or other organisations can also benefit from the opportunities on offer.
The Water Sports Centre is located directly behind the large dam wall at the south-eastern tip of Great Brombach Lake. There are berths for 20 sailing dinghies over an area of approximately 650 square metres. On the two upper floors of the building there is a workshop, an emergency store, sanitary facilities as well as drying and storage rooms.
Professional competence for fitness at the lake
Do you want to give your event a sporting focus? The staff of the Department of Sports Science and Sport will be happy to provide you with the right setting for your conference or seminar. From lifestyle courses and company fitness activities to team-building seminars or trial sailing, our instructors know how to provide your guests with fresh ideas and new energy in a sporty atmosphere.
Location advantage: Franconian Lake District, leisure region
Not only will the surroundings of the Water Sports Centre entice visitors with its scenic attractions, the Franconian Lake District also offers something culturally extraordinary: hikers can explore the Roman site of Limes a few kilometres south of Lake Brombach. Inline skating, Nordic walking or triathlon are all great options for those who want to get out and about. In the nearby village of Gunzenhausen, there is fresh produce from the fields at weekly farmers’ markets, while micro-breweries with beautiful beer gardens offer beer-lovers guided tours through their cellars.
When will you go on board?
Take advantage of the many possibilities of the Water Sports Centre in Pleinfeld and book our seminar room for your event!
Hoist the sails too: Become a member of the association to support university water sports! The trainers at the Water Sports Centre will teach you the correct boat trim if you want to join the Water Sports Centre’s support association or otherwise support the centre.
