Sailing
Sailing at the FAU water sports centre takes place at Pleinfeld Water Sports Centre (WSpZ) at Brombachsee 6 in 91785 Pleinfeld.
Sailing offering
The sailing offering includes training, further education and free sailing.
Sailing training
Sailing training includes basic courses and exam preparation courses. It takes place on 2-man sailing dinghies . The basic courses (GK) are suitable for beginners; they teach the theoretical and practical basics of sailing by means of elementary manoeuvres and training contents.
The exam preparation courses (PV) teach the sailing basics in more detail, build on skills and abilities and prepare for the Sailing Certificate Examination. The courses are offered as 2-day weekend courses.
Sailing training
The sailing training courses can only be attended after a successful sailing examination. The following courses are offered:
The Katkurs (KAT) brings an additional sporting edge and extended experience in sailing and takes place on demanding Hobie Kat 16. At the end of the course there will be a separate exam, which will enable you to rent the Kats for free sailing.
Free sailing
In free sailing, the boats with free capacity at FAU Water Sports Centre can be hired out at your own responsibility, i.e. without the supervision of a course instructor.
The right to use the boats can be purchased for a day, a weekend or a whole season. In case of a daily or weekend rental, it is advisable – in order to clarify whether free boats are available – to make a request to the leader of the current training course, or to the professional team.
Every weekend there is someone on site where boats can be hired.
In the course offering, an annual subscription for sailing at the Water Sports Centre can be paid under the flat rate section. Flat rate holders can choose to have their FAUCARD activated for access to the Water Sports Centre or borrow an access chip. This allows you to sail independently of the courses running. It is particularly important to observe the sailing regulations in this case.
Sailing course information
In the course information you will find information about participation, payment conditions and cancellation, insurance and liability, about meeting point and arrival, accommodation and meals, about equipment and storm warning.
Sailing licences
The exam for the VDWS Jolle Grundschein (basic licence for a dinghy) and VDWS Katschein (licence for a catamaran) is offered at FAU’s Pleinfeld Water Sports Centre.
Sailing regulations
The sailing regulations are the basis for safe and successful sailing at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. They outline the important points that are part of good conduct on the water.
Participants in sailing sport at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg are obliged to observe the sailing regulations conscientiously and to be liable for damages in case of gross negligence.
